Jacoby 2NT
This is a deal from the Edward Chok Swiss Team on 3/2/2018.
I found some players are not understanding the rationale behind Jacoby 2NT and missed a reasonable slam.
Below is an auction happened at some of the tables.
East made the first mistake by making the 2NT bid.
The problem of this bid is that, you basically do not know where to go after any response from Opener.
3 was the best response you could have(ignore the seldom 4-level response for 5+ good suit), but you still missed the slam.
West made the second mistake by bidding 3 instead of 4.
The response to Jacoby 2NT, should be on the priority of showing the 5+ cards good suit.
Recall that the conditions for slam are controls and source of tricks.
a second suit can provide sufficient source of tricks for your slam.
With the 4 rebid, East can now raise to 5 as a slam try.
Note that West should have controls in at least one red suit to justify the opening bid.
Below would be a better sequence thru Jacoby 2NT.
If you are like me, not a big fan of Jacoby 2NT, you may be interested in starting with 2.
